Presented
by Underground International Voices of Theatre in association
with The O'Neill Film and Theatrical Foundation, this
phantasmagoric tale depicts the ordeals of a fictional figure
skater during the harassment and violence against Russian gays
that accompanied the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
It
would
be a harmless, perverse delusion if it were not so chillingly
true to the angst and paranoia in Russia today.
The
production was canceled shortly before its opening in 2015. The
producers decided that the play, a work of staccato verse to be
performed in the style of Russian Expressionism, would profit
by further development before opening for its world premiere run.
The production had also been set back by the loss of a principal
cast member who had to leave the production due to a personal
emergency.
